Now there's no need to interrupt your movie when you see a great shot. With the S2 IS's new MovieSnap feature, you can simply press the shutter to capture a full 5.0-megapixel still image at any time while recording a movie.
True motion pictures with high-end options
Wait until you see the difference that 30-frames-per-second VGA continuous movie recording makes in your films. You'll hear the difference, too: the S2 IS is equipped to record in stereo, with a high sampling rate, adjustable microphone level setting, and wind filter option for excellent sound quality. The camera even allows digital zooming and manual focus during movie recording.
Advanced imaging technology improves every photo
DIGIC II Image Processor
Canon's DIGIC II Image Processor is designed to improve processing speed and image quality, so the DIGIC II processor provides markedly faster camera startup, autofocus, and playback plus it assures that every image is more colorfully vibrant.
iSAPS Technology
iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC II Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
Fastest performance standard
PowerShot S2 IS supports the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed standard, so you'll enjoy the highest possible data transfer speeds when using a USB 2.0 compatible computer. The camera's performance level is high enough to take full advantage of super-high-speed SD memory cards as well.

Bright and sharp, the camera's power-saving LCD monitor measures a full 1.8 inches with a stunning 115,000 pixel resolution. With it, you can view your scene before and after you shoot it with extraordinary clarity. And when you're shooting at dusk or at night, Night Display function lets you see the display clearly. It brightens the object by reducing the frame rate on the LCD screen.
A substantial lineup of available accessories
PowerShot S2 IS lets you add value and take your photography even further with optional accessories. Wide-angle converter and teleconverter lenses prepare you for capturing any shot perfectly, while a high-power flash doubles your flash range for pro-level illumination.

Customer Reviews
Canon Camera![]()
Love the camera. It takes great pictures and came with everything in its original box.
A built in zoom for the advanced beginner![]()
First off I would like to say READ THE MANUAL! If you can't be bothered to read it maybe this isn't the camera for you. Do not depend on Amazon's description to include a note of the other items you may need. RESEARCH.
Now then...
Krupnik has written a thorough review of the S2 ;) thanks Jim! I learned a lot from your review.
Most of my photography is normal everyday stuff, with a couple of projects in mind for the future & I want better control with what my camera can do. I wanted a digital camera that could give me good quality pictures & video, better options for zoom, manual control option as well as many other lighting & scenic options & relatively low extra cost for accessories. I wanted something that was more advanced without the huge expense of many additional lenses. This is an upgrade from my Sony cyber shot, which I did get very good pictures from but it's limited to a 3x zoom (I am very impressed with that little camera!). For now this camera makes me very happy. It's easy enough to use, takes great pictures, very good video & with the image stabilizer the videos, zoom & slower shutter speeds aren't as jittery. I don't have the telephoto & wide angle lenses yet, but I will soon at which point I will be back to update!
After a quick glance at the quick start chart I was taking pictures. After a half hour reading the manual, I understood clearly the basics of how to use the camera & took better pictures. The manual was easy to understand though the print is small. The controls on the camera are easy to understand & use once you have familiarized yourself with it & read the manual. Every day I read about a couple of functions & then try them out to make sure I understand how to use them so that when it counts, I can take great pics. I've been experimenting with what works & what doesn't.
The camera comes with lens cap, that snaps on with no problem
4AA batteries, not rechargeable
neck strap
cd-rom photo software & software starter guide
USB cable
stereo cable - for tv viewing of videos & pics
16 MB SD memory card
operating manual
direct print manual
warranty
quick start up fold out
AND a camera & accessories bi-fold 'map' which clearly shows what other items you may need depending on what you want to do. How convenient is that?!
Spanish versions of all manuals & guides also included.
I have bought the adapter & a clip-in lens cover. I also bought a polarization lens for my outdoor photos. It really does make a difference, outside & inside with bright lighting. My next move is to purchase the wide & tele lenses Raynox makes which are compatible with the S2, a few other filters....*rubs hands together in glee*
Overall I am thrilled with it & at this point any problems are due to my own lack of skill as I continue to improve with this camera. I have read through quite a few reviews in here about this camera & I suggest a read through to help in learning about accessories, filters & tip.
Great camera with two major flaws![]()
I think just about everything that can be said about this camera has already been said in other reviews, so I'll just add my four stars to the mix by saying that I've had this camera for about two years and that it has served me very well on trips all over the world as well as closer to home. It takes excellent photos with vibrant color, and of course the 12x zoom is wonderful.
But it has two major flaws. First, the lousy lens cap simply will not stay on. It is a terrible design carried over from the S1 IS that Canon should be ashamed of itself for not fixing. In addition, this camera (and other Canon cameras I have owned) does not perform well (or at all) in low-light situations. My first digital camera was an Olympus C2100 (also a 10x zoom lens), and it took absolutely outstanding low-light photos. Why Canon can't match that much older technology is a mystery to me. So while this camera is great in good light, it is pretty much useless in low light conditions.
