    From the Manufacturer
The 10-megapixel NV10 features the distinctive styling of the NV Series including an innovative touch pad Graphical User Interface (GUI), a sleek, brushed black aluminum body, and a compact design. The NV10, measuring just .7-inches thick, includes a Schneider 3x optical zoom lens (35-105mm equivalent), a 5x digital zoom, and a large, 2.5-inch color LCD display.

The NV10, a 10-megapixel model, joins the NV Series of digital still cameras featuring unique, slim designs with sleek bodies in brushed black, stainless steel and a trademark Samsung blue ring located around the lens of each model. This premium line was developed after two years of extensive market research, and as a result, feature a revolutionary, easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows users to easily toggle through menu functions using a convenient touch pad located along the LCD on the back of the camera, instead of the traditional dial located at the top of the camera. For outstanding image quality, the NV10 features legendary Schneider optics.

The NV10 is equipped with Samsung's state-of-the-art Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) technology to combat hand shake. The ASR function provides enhanced image clarity by electronically compensating for excess hand shake and improving color in environments lacking sufficient lighting where the use of the flash is not desirable.

With the touch of a button, the unique technology uses proprietary algorithms to interpret sharpness and color information to deliver an image that looks like it has been taken with the flash. As the flash is disabled, side effects such as red eye are prevented.

As with the entire NV Series, the NV10 can record in VGA (640 x 480) at 30 frames per second (fps), for smoother video and a larger view of the movie on LCD and TV screens. The NV10 also includes a movie stabilizer function that automatically detects and corrects minor lateral and vertical camera movement. For additional control, the continuous video recording function allows the user to pause and resume video recording at any time, while the built-in movie editing function allows users to edit video in-camera. There are also several special effects functions for creative control in-camera, such as Color Effect, Highlight, Photo Frame, Negative, and Composite Shot. Color effects include black and white, sepia, blue, green, and red.

For crystal-clear images under various shooting conditions, the NV10 features 11 scene modes, including Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach and Snow, and Text Recognition. Text Recognition, a feature unique to Samsung digital still cameras, allows users to shoot documents such as books, papers, and magazines and then extract text from the image taken using the bundled Digimax Reader text recognition software.

    Customer Reviews

    MY SAMSUNG NV 105
I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS CAMEERA. IT IS SMALL AND TAKES VERY SHARP PICTURES. ANTI SHAKE WORKS GREAT. HAVE NOT HAD ANY DIFFICULITIES USING ALL THE FEATURES OF THIS CAMERA.

    OK camera, terrible customer support1
The camera itself is OK, no complaints. However at some point it was damaged and sent to Samsung for repair. That turned out to be a naightmarish experience. I don't recommend buying a Sumsung camera because if you ever need it serviced, you will have to deal with the most incompetent bureaucrocy that will loose your camera and will keep you on phone for hours inventing various excuses of why the camera is lost. For closest approximation of the Samsung customer service read Frantz Kafka's "Trail". The book will cost you less than the camera here on Amazon, but the impressions will be the same.

Convenient camera (but user manual is a little vague)4
I have a Nikon D80 Digital SLR and an older Sony DSC-V1 digital camera. But I wanted a smaller camera that I could easily carry around everywhere and use at any time.

I tried the Canon Elph, the Nikon Coolpix, and others in a local camera store. But they were either too slippery to hold, or too big/heavy, or lacked a decent wide angle, or didn't support decent manual modes. Then I tried the NV10. WOW!

    SMART TOUCH
The camera manual is a little vague about this. Swipe-and-pause (not press) from one button to its neighbor scrolls pictures one-by-one. Swipe-and-pause across more buttons scrolls faster through multiple pictures. To keep scrolling without swiping over and over, swipe-and-pause but end on the very last button on the left, or on the second-to-last button on the right.

The Zoom button lets you zoom out to view multiple thumbnails in a photo album view (swipe-and-pause to scroll left/right/up/down) and then zoom in for the full view of a selected picture.

    SIZE/GRIP
This camera is skinny! I have (previously) uploaded a picture to Amazon showing the camera with a dime for comparison.

It has a decent grip, and it's slightly longer than most of the other comparable cameras I tried. But you could try it in a store to decide for yourself.

    PICTURE QUALITY
It only supports JPG (no TIFF or RAW formats). By default, it's set on JPG Medium, but you can set it to JPG Fine.

To give you a sense of the colors, the grain, issues with the image at the corners, low-light handling, and shake reduction (or not), I have previously uploaded an uncropped picture of some jelly fish (at an aquarium), taken handheld with no flash in Automatic mode. The only light was from the soft/dim light inside the tanks. The room was dark because these jellies don't tolerate light well.

    MANUAL SETTINGS
You usually only get two F stop choices available at any time. (F2.8 and F7.1 commonly appear, but the these choices change when you zoom.)

    SHAKE REDUCTION
The ASR is digital, not optical. So, it's not the same as having a vibration reduction lens. (Also, the manual indicates that you need to enter a special shooting mode to get the ASR. So, apparently you don't get ASR most of the time.)

    SD CARD
The manual guarantees compatibility with 1GB max. I haven't tried a 2GB card yet.

The camera also has 20MB of internal memory built in, so you can actually take a couple of pictures even *before* you buy a card (or after you fill up a card).

    REMOTE
There's a remote available in certain countries, but I have yet to see it available (by itself, at least) in the US.

    BATTERY LIFE
Once you get past the newbie need to use up battery life while fiddling with learning to use the camera, it doesn't seem too bad. The batteries are very small (as shown in my uploaded picture), so it's easy to carry a couple of extras.

    ZOOM
The 3X optical zoom is OK. The newer Samsung NV11 has a 5x optical zoom (but maybe Samsung traded that for something that I would miss). The NV7 has a 7X optical zoom (but it's a bigger camera).

I've had the NV10 for nearly a year now, and I'm pleased with it.

    PowerShot SD790IS Highlights

Canon PowerShot SD790IS Features and Highlights
    1x zoom/3x zoom
Advanced 10-megapixel Digital ELPH with 3x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH offers impressive core technologies. The 10.0-megapixel CCD gives you extraordinary flexibility in cropping and enlarging: the detail and resolution are so fine that you can take any part of an image and enlarge it with confidence. The 3x optical zoom can more than handle your everyday shooting. Canon’s exclusive Optical Image Stabilizer automatically detects and cancels camera shake, ensuring that your images are crisp and blur-free throughout the zoom range.

Motion Detection Technology automatically detects subject movement and optimizes exposure control to reduce blur Life doesn’t stand still for picture-taking. That’s why Canon included its advanced Motion Detection Technology in the PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH. This sophisticated feature works in the background to instantly evaluate how fast your subject is moving. Then it automatically selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings to keep everything looking sharp and clear. When you need higher ISOs for action-stopping shutter speeds, Motion Detection Technology provides it. But when no movement is detected, it allows lower ISOs for excellent color and detail. So whether you’re shooting a bride walking down the aisle, a ballet recital or even a child’s soccer game, you can relax and shoot with confidence knowing you’ve got the picture you intended.
Canon PowerShot SD790IS Features and Highlights

Large 3.0-inch PureColor LCD II screen for bright, accurate color and wide viewing angle The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH gives you large 3.0-inch LCD screen for excellent control when framing your shots. Canon’s PureColor LCD II offers more spectacular color, resolution and contrast even when viewed at an angle (compared to PureColor LCD). The screen is highly durable and easy to see in any light with a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective coating. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light -- a perfect feature for gathering friends and family around to see your images.

Canon PowerShot SD790IS Features and Highlights
With Canon's Face Detection WB (right), skin tones are not affected by overall lighting
Improved Face Detection Technology sets the focus, exposure, flash and white balance automatically Canon's powerful Face Detection Technology delivers even better results with the new SD790 IS Digital ELPH. The Face Detection Technology continues to recognize faces in a scene, concentrate exposure (daylight or flash) and focus upon them. But the SD790 IS Digital ELPH adds more: Face Detection WB means the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. Face Select and Track lets the SD790 IS Digital ELPH user highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene. Face Detection Technology is a powerful contributing factor in Canon's new Motion Detection Technology.

And with 19 Shooting Modes including 12 Special Scene Modes, you’re ready for whatever shot comes your way.

Edgy, stylish design combined with a cool new button configuration for great operability It’s all about edge with the PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH. Sculptured angles not only ratchet up this Digital ELPH’s "look at me" quotient, but add an extra degree of control for superior handling. Gleaming cut surfaces emphasize the camera’s slim style. A cutting-edge control dial makes accessing functions and operations easier than ever. Large, flat buttons in an intuitive configuration are uniquely attractive and fun to use.

DIGIC III Image Processor for superior image quality and improved functionality With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. What’s more, DIGIC III enables Canon’s Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the Shutter Button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. Red-eye Correction can be handled in-camera, in two ways. The entirely new Red-eye Correction during shooting uses the Face Detection Technology to recognize and remove red-eye from flash images as they're taken, before the file is written to the memory card. It's also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the SD790 IS Digital ELPH's menu.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.
    1) The new Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
    2) The SD790 IS Digital ELPH can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
    3) The user can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH also features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

Print/Share Button for easy direct printing and downloading The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH's Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever. Simply connect the SD790 IS Digital ELPH to a Canon PIXMA photo printer or SELPHY compact photo printer or any PictBridge compatible photo printer, press the lighted Print/Share button and print! Also use the Print/Share button to transfer images to a computer (Windows and Macintosh).

Print your own ID photos in up to 28 different sizes or use the Movie Print function to output multiple stills from a recorded movie on a single sheet with a Canon SELPHY compact photo printer.

Great overall point & shoot digital camear5
Clear photos, good video function, really good macro photos. Could perhaps use some wind noise cancellation for the mic and improved clarity when zooming in video mode. I also found it to have good battery life. Much better than the (albeit old) Sony DSC-T1 I replaced with this camera.

    Great camera5
I love my new camera!! I took it on my trip and I was able to take so many great pictures. Very fast shipping!!

Depends what you're using it for3

How one rates this camera will depend on what they're using it for, I think.

    Pros:

It's good for a casual photographer - a professional will obviously be looking into more expensive models. If you have many events to document, or simply enjoy taking pictures of the things around you, you likely won't be disappointed in this camera.

I myself enjoy taking pictures, mostly for art reference, but I do not fancy myself a photographer by any means. I want to be able to point and shoot, and this camera handles that well. If you know what you're doing, though, you can tinker with the settings and change things around to suit your needs.

    Cons:

My problem with this camera was the difference between what I saw on the LCD screen and what I saw once the picture was taken. The colors were often drastically different in moderate to low lighting, and since every good picture is not out in broad daylight and there are some really beautiful colors at sunset, I was kind of peeved. Odd lighting seemed to confuse the camera, and the pictures wouldn't turn out looking like what you yourself were staring at.

Also, when taking pictures of various artwork (I was hoping to get away with taking pictures instead of having to buy a big ol' scanner), whether I stood the thing on a tripod or used macro settings... nothing would get the pictures of the art to come out crisp and clean. They were always just a bit blurry.

    Overall:

For the price, you can't beat this camera. As long as you're not trying to get amazing, perfect pictures out of it - as long as you have the right expectations - you won't be disappointed. It's not for me, as I need something more precise for what I use it for, but everyone who just wants something to tote along with them on vacations ought to give it a try.

    Amazon.com Review
Few digital camera lines have been as successfully branded as Canon's Powershot. And the best known in that line was the powerful and fun to use G2. Now, Canon's following it up with their G3, which has the same four megapixels of resolution but now offers an improved 4X optical zoom and other updated features.

With a revamped body, the G3 feels a bit more comfortable in the hands. A mid-sized camera, you'll notice it hanging around your neck, but its 14.5 ounce frame won't weigh you down terribly. With a high-speed CompactFlash card, the G3 can take video clips of up to three minutes complete with sound.

You'll want to consider an upgrade to one of those cards, as the G3 ships with only a 32 MB standard CF card--not bad for bundled memory, but you'll be happier with more storage room. Images taken at the highest resolution quickly filled up the 32 MB card, but were highly detailed as well as bright with realistic colors.

The G3 features the same large, bright 1.8-inch LCD as its predecessor, making it easy to frame your shot in anything except direct sunlight. Like earlier G models, the LCD flips out and can be rotated around completely, letting you view it from any angle.

This works well with the G3's two options for self-timing, 2 and 10 seconds, so you can see what you're doing from the target viewpoint. And the G3's above-industry-standard 4x optical zoom lets you get in closer than the G2's 3x zoom as well.

Compatible with Canon's Direct Print feature, you can output images from the G3 directly to any of Canon's Direct Print line of printers. The G3 is a great choice for a 4 megapixel, 4x optical zoom camera with a wealth of features. --J. Curtis

    Pros:

  • 4 megapixels and 4x optical zoom
  • Three minute video clips with sound
  • Well designed

    Cons:

  • Only 32 MB CF card

    Amazon.com Product Description
Quite simply, the Canon PowerShot G3 is an elegant, easy-to-use joy of a digital camera that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding professional or advanced amateur photographer. It boasts an impressive 4-megapixel resolution, a 4x optical zoom, and a bright LCD monitor that swivels off to the side of the camera and tilts up and down as needed. It also provides a bevy of manual creative controls in addition to its fully automatic mode.

    Optics and Resolution
The PowerShot G3 owes its brilliantly detailed images to a high-resolution, 4-megapixel CCD that delivers a postcard-size image with no visible pixilation. On-chip primary color filters provide vivid and realistic color without the noisiness associated with other primary-color filters. The G3 can capture images at resolutions of 2,272 x 1,704; 1,600 x 1,200; 1,024 x 768; and 640 x 480. This range allows for prints up to 11 by 14 inches, as well as easy-to-upload images for the Web and e-mail.

The G3's lens features a 4x optical zoom, the first on a PowerShot camera, which moves from wide-angle to extreme telephoto with the touch of a finger. The lens aperture is a large and bright f2.0-f3.0, so you can shoot in low light without flash. The G3 also features a 3.6x digital zoom that when combined with the 4x optical gives you a total zoom of 14x.

    Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on Type I or II CompactFlash memory cards. The included 32 MB card will store approximately 27 images at 2,272 x 1,704 pixels (at large/fine settings). Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB storage-class connectivity, which means it can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

    Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the PowerShot G3 can also record movie clips of up to 3 minutes. You can choose from either 160 x 120 or 320 x 240 pixel video formats.

    More Features
The G3's electronic dial, with its independent mode dial and lever, replaces the functions of the previous two-stage main dial and mode dial. The control layout is functional and simple to use. The display panel at the top of the large, 1.8-inch LCD monitor has been redesigned for a clear layout of icons, and larger fonts make the menus easy to read.

Exposure metering is selectable among evaluative, center-weighted average, or spot. AE lock and FE lock let you store ideal auto and flash exposures until you're ready to shoot, while the exposure compensation enables you to adjust the exposure up or down as much as two full stops.

You can add power to the PowerShot G3 by adding optional components, from Canon's EX series Speedlight external flashes (which connect easily to the G3's hot shoe) to a variety of converters and conversion lenses.

    Power, Size, and Contents
The camera is powered by a proprietary Canon rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included), and measures 4.8 by 3.0 by 2.5 inches and 14.5 ounces. This package includes the PowerShot G3 digital camera, a 32 MB CompactFlash card, a lithium battery (model BP-511), a compact power adapter (model CA-560), a wireless controller, USB and AV cables, neck strap, and a CD-ROM with Photoshop LE imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac.

    From the Manufacturer
The 4.0 megapixel PowerShot G3 uses a new proprietary dedicated signal processor called DIGIC which provides better image quality, increased processing speed, faster AF and uses less power. Canon has increased the zoom range of the G3’s built-in lens to 35-140mm (4x optical / 3.6x digital / 14x combined) while maintaining a maximum aperture range of f/2.0-3.0, thus offering the widest zoom range and largest aperture of any current Canon PowerShot model. Other features of the camera include 12 EOS System-based shooting modes for customizing the camera to the user’s shooting style; a new Wide-Area FlexiZone AF/AE system which allow users to focus on off-center subjects without repositioning the camera; Spot Metering; and Zoom Playback up to 10X. A new Intelligent Orientation Sensor automatically rotates images for proper viewing during playback. And like other PowerShot-series cameras, the PowerShot G3 has a Direct Print function that is compatible with Canon’s CP-10 a! nd CP-100 dye-sublimation printers as well as Bubble Jet Direct photo printers for fast, high-quality photos from wallet size up to letter size (8.5 x 11-inches).

    4.0 Megapixel CCD

The PowerShot G3 owes its brilliantly detailed images to a high-resolution 1/1.8" 4.0 megapixel CCD. On-chip primary filters provide vivid and realistic colors without the noise associated with other filters.

At its introduction, a real powerhouse4
When I bought this camera 3 years ago, it was the advanced "point-n-shoot" I had been waiting for. While it's outdated now, it's successors (the most recent is the just-launched G7) have continued Canon's tradition of knowing their users. This camera let's me do nearly everything to which I was accustomed with my film slr. It can be fully automatic, (almost) completely manual (you can't expose the same frame/file multiple times, as in a film camera). It has a choice of metering modes, though no spot meter - however I've rarely found this to be too sore a point). And it let's me be creative and experiments.

    My main gripes:
    1. Autofocus is not speedy nor as accurate as as a film slr.
    2. Battery life is much less than a film camera (as are most digicams).
    3. It only records up to ISO400, and there's some noise and fringing in the shadows in low light at that speed.
    4. Lens does not have a fixed maximum aperature, however, at the lens' widest angle max aperature is a robust F/2.
5.It now seems a bit clunky, physically.

I'm looking forward to upgrading to my first DSLR shortly. Can't wait to have the resolution, speed, and lens interchangeability that I so enjoyed on my old Elan.

That said, if you're looking for an advanced fixed lens point and shot, don't hesistate to try out the latest in the Canon Powershot line.

Malfunctions, poor cust. service, insulting Upgrade Program2
Initially a nice camera. However, while I was stationed in Iraq the camera suffered from an E24 error while it was with my wife in Germany. I chose not to take the camera to Iraq out of fear that it would be damaged. Instead, to my suprise, it was damaged in Germany for no apparant reason, atleast not one due to poor handling. My wife mailed the camera to the Canon repair shop in the States. They returned the camera in working order. The repairs were completed free of charge since it was in the time period of the one year warranty. On the day I returend from Iraq (6 months later after the first repair) a friend took a photo of us at the reception ceremony. The camera relapsed into the same state as before - an E24 error. The LCD screen would not display any data. The camera therefore completely shut itself off, a feature that was later explained to me by a Canon representative that is used to protect the camera from further damage. I spoke with a repair representative about what appears to me to be an easy fix. I was told that since my warranty had expired I would have to pay a minimum of $187 to a maximum of $500 for the repairs. Keep in mind this was told to me prior to any Canon technician ever even looked at the camera. I asked if that would still be the charge if it was a fix as simple as a loose screw and they told me that was an accurate assumption. I then asked if I would be required to pay if it was found that the problem was related to the initial repair having not been done properly while under warranty, again they responded that I would. They then informed me of an "Upgrade Program". They told me I could send them my G3, and pay them an additional $300, and in return I would receive a REFURBISHED G5! Not a new one, REFURBISHED! If I were to accept that offer I would end up paying $950 for a refurbished Canon G5 ($300 + the original $650 for the G3). I was insulted to say the least. I'm willing to bet that those refurbished G5's are part of a program that they have for an upgrade to the G6 for the G5 users that have the same issue as I. What a scam! What a pathetic customer service department! What an insult to an American soldier that just returned from a 13 month deployment in Iraq! Oh yeah, the company is Japanese, they don't care anyway;)

But by the way, I do own another Canon Powershot A20, 2.1 MP. I've owned it for over 3 years and it has been a great camera. I believe Canon is the best brand out there. But as for their repair assistance, customer service, and warranty policy - they are simply an insult!

    Tim
    An unhappy American soldier...

    This is a great camera!5
I bought my G3 in September of 2003 after my SLR took a dump 3 weeks before my baby was due. I have NEVER been disappointed. Granted, if I had the money, I would have gone for something better, but this was the BEST I could have gotten for my money. Some reviewers have commented on the camera not being worth the price - you must not have shopped around! I found mine, brand new, for $460 from a reputable online camera store.

My pictures turn out great most of the time. I agree with the slow focus time, but you can't get everything with a prosumer camera. I love the neverending list of options this camera offers (from flash output to f-stops to white balance, etc. etc.).

When I have the money saved up I'll be buying the Canon digital rebel, but until then I am very satisfied with my G3.

    10x optical zoom in action
Zoom in for sharp, steady close-ups with Canon’s 10x Optical Zoom lens
The PowerShot SX110 IS has a 10x optical zoom lens that makes it easy to get the inspiring, emotive close-ups that will make your images lasting keepsakes. This magnificent lens gives you the power to shoot distant subjects with razor-sharp precision and stunning lifelike color. So you can brilliantly capture a bird high atop a tree, a child’s winning goal from across the stadium or a school play from the last row. Plus, thanks to Canon’s highly sophisticated Optical Image Stabilizer Technology, even at maximum zoom, every image is rock steady.

The PowerShot SX110 IS is equipped with Canon’s acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake -- one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you’ll be proud to shoot and share. And Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer Technology is convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.

DIGIC III Image Processor with Genuine Canon Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB
With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. What’s more, DIGIC III enables Canon’s Face Detection, Motion Detection Technologies and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the shutter button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. The camera also selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings automatically to keep everything looking sharp and clear. Red-eye Correction can be handled in-camera, in two ways. The Red-eye Correction during shooting uses the Face Detection Technology to recognize and remove red-eye from images as they're taken, before the file is written to the memory card. It's also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the SX110 IS's menu.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

Canon PowerShot SX110 IS digital camera highlights
Capture great shots with Face Detection AF/AE/FE
DIGIC III features Face Detection Technologies, giving you the best possible results in any shooting situation. Face Detection AF/AE sets the focus point and exposure for the faces of your subjects. Face Detection FE adjusts the flash to correctly illuminate your subject to provide the best balance between your subject and the overall scene, eliminating the common problems of over and underexposed faces. Face Detection WB means the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. Face Select and Track lets you highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene. Face Detection Technology is a powerful contributing factor in Canon's Motion Detection Technology. Simply press the Face Selector Button, then the selected face is double-framed and tracked when the face moves in the frame.

Motion Detection Technology works in the background to instantly evaluate how fast your subject is moving. It automatically selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings to keep everything looking sharp and clear. This feature provides higher ISOs when you need it for action-stopping shutter speeds. But when no movement is detected, it sets lower ISOs for excellent color and detail. Life doesn’t give you second chances to capture special times. That’s why the PowerShot SX110 IS features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.
    1) The Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
    2) The SX110 IS can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
    3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

    Best digital camera ever owned5
This camera is so good that I also bought one for my wife! I have never done that before.

Two of my daughters have expensive digital SLR cameras in the $1,500.00 range which are around two years old. The SX110IS takes better photos! This shows how fast technology is moving.

My wife is an artist and enters contests via a photo of her paintings. Taking an excellent photograph of an original oil painting is almost impossible. My wife has even hired professional photographers. The SX110IS absolutely takes the best photos of oil paintings that I have ever seen. The photos aren't just a little bit better, but a whole lot better!

Fantastic photos and zoom quality is more than I expected.5
I searched based on some specific criteria I was looking for in a camera. I wanted good zoom quality in my family photos and this camera delivers. Although there is a long time between flashes, the quality and efficiency of the camera overall outweighs this one aspect. I thoroughly enjoy taking photos with this camera and it is not too heavy or bulky. A great camera for families and the up and coming photograher.

    Great zoom and image stabilization5
I searched for several weeks using several camera review sites and finally picked this one. It had all the options I like at a great price. Even in low light environments such as at concerts it performed well. Pictures are crystal clear and my only complaint was the charge time for the flash. Takes 6 or 7 seconds to charge for the next shot.

    Manufacturer Description
The all-weather, 8-megapixel Stylus 830 combines elegant design with power, performance and reliability. Capture beautiful images thanks to the superior features, such as Face Detection Technology, Shadow Adjustment Technology, Perfect Shot Preview, Image Stabilization, a large HyperCrystal LCD screen, and Preset Shooting Modes. The Stylus 830 also enables you to capture TV-quality video with sound, and the camera easily connects directly to a television or LCD screen for convenient playback.

Additionally, the Stylus 830 features Dual Image Stabilization, which combines mechanical Sensor-Shift Stabilization with Digital Image Stabilization to compensate for both camera shake and moving subjects -- ensuring blur-free images in virtually any shooting situation. The camera also offers 5x optical zoom to bring the action closer and a large 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD in a sleek, compact design. The Stylus 830 also provides illuminated buttons for easy viewing in low-light situations.

    Stylus 830 Highlights

Image stabilization for blur-free photos Dual Image Stabilization technology combines two technologies -- mechanical Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization and Digital Image Stabilization -- to provide one powerful anti-blur solution for capturing great images whether the photographer or the subject is moving. Olympus' mechanical Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization keeps images sharp by adjusting the CCD image sensor to compensate for camera movement, which often occurs in low-light conditions when shutter speeds are slower. Digital Image Stabilization freezes the action with high ISO sensitivity and fast shutter speeds that prevent blurry images often caused by a moving subject. By combining the two technologies, Stylus 830 users are able to take crystal clear images in virtually any shooting situation.

Stylish, ergonomic body design and all-weather durability Stylus digital cameras are renowned for their high performance, style and ability to withstand the elements. The Stylus 830 features a light-weight metal body with rubber gaskets throughout the interior to ensure that rain, sleet and snow will not get in the way of great photos.

2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD The Stylus 830 boasts a large, high-resolution 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD with high contrast and anti-glare technology for clear visibility, even when composing pictures in bright sunlight. Images are viewable on the LCD screen from 176-degrees, so photos can be composed from a range of angles and viewed by several people at once.

Face Detection technology Face Detection Technology tracks faces within the frame and automatically focuses (Face Detection AF) and optimizes exposure (Face Detection AE) for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures. Even if your subjects are moving, the camera continuously tracks your subjects' faces without having to press the shutter button.

Shadow Adjustment technology Shooting outdoors in bright daylight can be tricky because of the extreme contrast between dark shadowed areas and bright sunlight areas -- while the human eye is capable of detecting the nuances between dark and light and all the details in between, image sensors traditionally have not been quite as sensitive. The Stylus cameras address this challenge head-on with a new Shadow Adjustment Technology, which compensates for extreme contrast where the shadow areas are underexposed and lack visible detail. With the new technology, users can preview and capture images that have the same contrast as seen with the naked eye.

Millions of pixels for superior image quality The 8-megapixel CCD image sensor inside the Stylus 830 delivers high-quality images that are consistently sharp and vivid even when printed in large formats.

Olympus Stylus 830 5x optical zoom
Get close to the action with 5x optical zoom
5x optical zoom in ultra-slim body design The Stylus 830 features new lens technology that enables the 5x optical zoom lens (36mm -- 180mm, F3.3 -- F5.0 equivalent in 35mm photography) to bring the action five times closer, and then tucks away into a compact body less than 1-inch thick.

Perfect Shot Preview Perfect Shot Preview mode enables users to preview and select various photographic effects on a live, multi-window screen before snapping the shot. The new feature allows users to see precisely what the image will look like when adjustments are made, ensuring users are capturing the exact image they want. It is an ideal way for novice users to learn about the effects of different photography techniques, such as zoom, exposure compensation, white balance and metering.

TruePic III image processor Olympus’ enhanced TruePic III Image Processor produces crystal clear photos using all the pixel information for each image to deliver superior picture quality with more accurate colors, true-to-life flesh tones and faster processing speeds. TruePic III also captures crisp, clear images at high ISO settings, which are traditionally associated with increasing image noise or producing grainy photos.

Bright Capture Technology for easy low-light photography There are times when a photographic opportunity is best captured with ambient light (e.g., when trying to capture the softness and warmth of a candlelit dinner or natural skin tones in subdued lighting). Olympus' Bright Capture Technology makes it possible to clearly compose and capture subjects on the LCD in low light. Specific scene modes for high sensitivity settings and rapid auto-focus enable even fast-action photos to be captured with low levels of available light. Plus, Bright Capture Movie lets consumers record the moments in the dark even after the candles are blown out!

    Bright Capture Technology in Action

26 preset shooting modes make it easy to capture great images The Stylus 830 camera makes it easy to take great photos in a variety of scenarios and lighting situations. Simply select the desired mode for portraits, landscapes, night scenes, fast-action, macro and more.

In-camera editing With the new Perfect Fix, multiple editing features can be applied at once, including Red-Eye Fix and Lighting Fix.

Olympus Master 2 software Olympus Master 2 software provides the ultimate in digital imaging management. An intuitive user interface makes downloading to your computer quick and simple, and images are easily organized by folders or albums and searchable by date in Calendar view. Additionally, with one-click editing tools, such as red-eye removal, images can be touched up before printing or e-mailing. Online support, templates, firmware upgrades and other user services are just a mouse-click away. Use the optional muvee Theater Pack to create professional quality slide shows and DVDs from your pictures using any of several built-in templates.

    Olympus Stylus camera5
I love this camera. It is the perfect size to carry in a pocket or a purse. It takes great pictures. Increadibly easy to work. My only complaint is that the screen is hard to view in sunlight but other than that I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who is considering buying it.

    Good camera4
I purchased this camera about a year ago and found it to be pretty good. There is one weakness, if you take a picture in low light where you need the flash and the subject is more that 15 feet away it comes out dark. My previous digital camera an Olympus 350 I believe does better much better in low light. On the other had the previous camera tended to white out in sun light.

    Great Overall Camera5
This camera is a great balance of high quality pictures, zoom, price, size, and durability. As seen in the pics at Disneyland and California Adventures, it takes excellent pictures that capture sharp details. The camera also suffered a drop during this trip, and the fall didn't phase it at all. Another selling point for me was that it's weather-proof and that a rechargeable battery is included. You don't have to worry about precipitation spoiling the camera or buying batteries/rechargeable battery kit. The only downside to this camera was that I had to buy the memory card separately (but that would have had to happen with any other camera, as I found in my research - I recommend the 2GB...nearly 500 pics on super high quality!). This camera is the total package and I highly recommend it!

Have had this camera for 14 months, suddenly dead!!1
This camera is great, but suddenly today it stopped for no reason. It just would not turn on, no damage was done to the camera either. I started using it around mid January 2008, so this time span for usage is just plain unacceptable for such a relatively new camera given the price point. I have contacted Canon customer service but feel a $129 repair is unfair for a camera that is so new and just barely out of warranty. This was a critical time that I needed it so I am especially upset about this particular stoppage. This is the THIRD Canon digital camera I've owned and all of them have stopped on me (owned the S30 then the SD400). Canon cameras create a wonderful finished product--that's why I use them--right until that dreaded day that they stop. Wondering if this is a pattern with their digital products? They need to be doing a lot better than this if they want to keep loyal customers, I go way back with them beyond digital cameras.

Dead in less than 1.5 years1
I loved this camera because it took great pictures. However, it's not durable. I bought it in Nov 2007. In less than 1 year 4 months, it's completely dead. I'd never dropped it onto the floor. I went to the manufacturer website and quoted for repair, the estimate repair cost is $129.

    1 year review5
i have had this camera for over a year now, and it is still doing great. (just jinxed it, lol). they did not ship to APO unfortunately, as most companies do not, but i did manage to get it sent to me by other means.

Nice point and shoot. i took some great pictures of the cherry blossoms the other day, beautiful. still working on night shots, they are not so great, unless you have a really steady hand (or use flash, which defeats the purpose of night shots).

either way, its a great camera. i personally prefer point & shoot to the bigger $1000 cameras, but i'm not into picture taking that much. would reccomend cannon to anyone, they make a very durable product. had my last one for some time before i broke it in iraq. this one has done great so far.

    From the Manufacturer
Like the entire 2007 Lumix line, the Lumix DMC-FX55 incorporates Panasonic's revolutionary Intelligent Image Stabilization technologies, and is among the first Panasonic cameras to offer Intelligent Auto Mode, a system which combines Mega Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S) and Intelligent ISO Control with three new features: Face Detection System, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Continuous Autofocus. The camera combines 8.1-megapixel resolution with a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens that features 3.6x optical zoom.

The new Intelligent Auto Mode available on the DMC-FX55 includes:

  • Intelligent Scene Selector, which automatically selects the appropriate scene mode from the most frequently-used modes such as Portrait, Scenery, Macro, Night Scenery, and Night Portrait;
  • the Face Detection System, which helps the camera to focus, set autoexposure, and detects up to 15 human faces, capturing them clearly and brightly; and
  • Continuous Autofocus, which allows the camera to maintain focus on the subject without having to press the shutter button halfway, minimizing autofocus time.

Intelligent Image Stabilization, a feature across the entire 2007 Lumix digital camera line, comprises two features: MEGA O.I.S. which helps compensate for the effects of hand-shake, and and Intelligent ISO Control, which takes into account the photo subject is moving and adjusts the ISO setting. Combining these two anti-blur features helps the DMCFX55 to photograph clear, crisp images.

In addition, the DMC-FX55 features the Venus Engine III, which supports a new High Sensitivity mode that allows images to be shot at a setting of up to ISO 6400. This is sensitive enough to capture subjects in low-light conditions without the need for a flash. Also, the high-speed Burst Shooting mode enables up to seven shots to be taken per second.

    Other advanced features include:

  • The DMC-FX55 has a 3-inch LCD screen.
  • 27MB of built-in memory, perfect for backing up SDHC/SD memory card recording.
  • The new Title Edit function allows the inputting of text to provide additional context to images. Additional functions for adding information to photos include the Text Stamp function and the Travel Date function.
  • Category Playback sorts images into categories such as portraits, events, baby, etc., to allow for easy playback and creation of slideshows.
  • Clipboard function allows the user to hold and retrieve certain images that may be useful on a trip, such as a photo of a map or train schedule.
  • The DMC-FX55 is available in silver, black, and pink.

Great Camera and Features - small package!!5
This camera has proven to be far better than I could have ever hoped!! I purchased this camera after my previous point-shoot style camera was damaged while sandbagging a levee in Iowa...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55P was ordered as a hurried replacement before I left on a trip. The camera has excellent lense quality and an outstanding array of features. I really appreciated that the menus and functioning are pretty intuitive if you have experience using cameras. I've mostly worked with Canon products previously and still like that gear very much. Even though I had not used a Panasonic before, locating features was easy and intuitive. I purchased this unit instead of the Canon because the Panasonic is a smaller, flatter camera that offers all of the same features that I wanted for much less money.

Simply put, I have not used a small camera which produced such high quality photos and offered such great flexibility of use. The flash is powerful and offers several settings. I've used the camera in a variety of situations ranging from concerts, over dinner, by a campfire, macro photos of bugs, and in the dead of night. All situations resulted in outstanding photos. The battery life has been very good. The wide angle is VERY useful. I just returned from 6 days of camping using the camera every day (not constantly) and never needed a charge.

I simply can't think of anything else I would like in such a camera. A great purchase that I could recommend to anyone.

    excellent5
just a great all around camera. I dont know why anyone would buy anything other than a panasonic. Leica lens, huge lcd screen, its fantastic.

    excellent5
it's a excellent camera. it's easy to use and many function. but it's not easy to buy a replacement battery.

    Manufacturer Description

The PowerShot A590 IS will astound you with its power-packed performance and impressive value. It’s got 8 megapixels, a 4x optical zoom, an Optical Image Stabilizer, and a large 2.5-inch LCD. A range of shooting modes -- from manual to automatic, including Canon’s new Easy Mode -- make picture-taking carefree. A DIGIC III Image Processor with Enhanced Canon Face Detection assures natural-looking results, while Motion Detection Technology reduces blur. For added creativity, attach wide or telephoto converter lenses.

    Canon PowerShot A590IS Highlights

8 megapixels with 4x optical zoom and optical image stabilizer With the PowerShot A590 IS, dramatic, personal pictures have never been easier to shoot and share. The 8.0-megapixel design lets you create impressive high resolution images of family and friends you’ll be proud display. The genuine Canon 4x zoom lens moves you in for powerful close-ups -- like a bird in flight or a child’s winning goal -- at the touch of a button. Plus, Canon’s highly sophisticated Optical Image Stabilizer keeps every shot absolutely steady even when you’re not.

2.5-inch LCD screen The camera’s 2.5-inch LCD screen gives you the big picture, whether you’re shooting, reviewing or showing off your images. This high-resolution screen offers a crisp, clear and bright picture. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light.

New Easy Mode simplifies operation Even if you’ve never picked up a camera before, with Canon’s new Easy Mode you can take inspiring, dramatic pictures that will impress everyone. Once you choose Easy Mode, the PowerShot A590 IS handles all the details automatically. It automatically sets every camera control including the flash to reduce blur and improve image quality. So you get pictures that are bright, clear and natural just by pushing a button. Best of all, you can relax and concentrate on what really counts -- your subject.

Selectable shooting modes With 19 Shooting Modes including 7 Special Scene Modes, you’re ready for whatever shot comes your way.

DIGIC III Image Processor With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. It's also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the A590 IS's menu.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

Face Detection Technology Canon's powerful Face Detection Technology delivers even better results with the new A590 IS. The Face Detection Technology continues to recognize faces in a scene, and concentrate exposure (daylight or flash) and focus upon them. But the A590 IS adds more: Face Detection WB means the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. Face Select and Track lets the A590 IS user highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene. Face Detection Technology is a powerful contributing factor in Canon's new Motion Detection Technology.

Red-eye Correction Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.

  • The new Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
  • The A590 IS can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
  • The user can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

High ISO The PowerShot A590 IS features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

Motion Detection Technology automatically reduces blur Life doesn’t stand still for picture-taking. That’s why Canon included its advanced Motion Detection Technology in the PowerShot A590 IS. This sophisticated feature works in the background to instantly evaluate how fast your subject is moving. Then it automatically selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings to keep everything looking sharp and clear. So whether you’re shooting a bride walking down the aisle, a ballet recital or even a child’s soccer game, you can relax and shoot with confidence knowing you’ve got the picture you intended.

Accepts Wide-Angle and Telephoto Converter Lenses To expand your creativity, the PowerShot A590 IS is compatible with shooting accessories such as wide and tele converter lenses, High-Power Flash designed for all of the PowerShot models.

    The Complete Print Solution

The A590IS features a Print/Share button for easy direct printing and downloading, plus ID Photo Print and Movie Print with select Pixma photo printers and Selphy compact photo printers.

The PowerShot A590 IS's Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever. GREAT CAMERA FOR THE PRICE!4
We like this camera because: easy to use, picture quality is good, compact size but not too small, great price $109 on Amazon. I wish the camera came with rechargeable batteries, but I can buy those separately. Also, it would have been nice if it came with a big SDHC card. Overall, I would definitely recommend this camera at this price!

    Canon PowerShot A590IS Digital Camera5
I really like this camera. It is fast, reliable, good size and it take really great pictures. I do like the fact that uses 2 regular AA batteries.

    Canon's reliable workhorse4
I've used this type of Powershot camera for my work inspecting tanks and pressure vessels for more than 10 years and the smaller, more compact, more feature-laden A590IS continues the string of great inexpensive, durable tools for taking good pictures in difficult lighting and dirty conditions. The optical viewfinder is a big plus and the flash's power always pleasantly surprises. AA batteries are a big convenience; essential Macro works great, and the SD card fits the reader on my HP laptop (CF cards in previous Powershots needed a separate reader). A slightly wider angle lens is my only wish.
