DIGIC III Image Processor for superior image quality and improved functionality With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. What’s more, DIGIC III enables Canon’s Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the Shutter Button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. Red-eye Correction can be handled in-camera, in two ways. iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.
1) The new Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
2) The SD790 IS Digital ELPH can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
3) The user can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.
The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH also features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.
Print/Share Button for easy direct printing and downloading The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH's Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever. Simply connect the SD790 IS Digital ELPH to a Canon PIXMA photo printer or SELPHY compact photo printer or any PictBridge compatible photo printer, press the lighted Print/Share button and print! Great overall point & shoot digital camear
Clear photos, good video function, really good macro photos. Could perhaps use some wind noise cancellation for the mic and improved clarity when zooming in video mode. I also found it to have good battery life. Much better than the (albeit old) Sony DSC-T1 I replaced with this camera.

Depends what you're using it for
How one rates this camera will depend on what they're using it for, I think.
Pros:
It's good for a casual photographer - a professional will obviously be looking into more expensive models. If you have many events to document, or simply enjoy taking pictures of the things around you, you likely won't be disappointed in this camera.
I myself enjoy taking pictures, mostly for art reference, but I do not fancy myself a photographer by any means. I want to be able to point and shoot, and this camera handles that well. If you know what you're doing, though, you can tinker with the settings and change things around to suit your needs.
Cons:
My problem with this camera was the difference between what I saw on the LCD screen and what I saw once the picture was taken. The colors were often drastically different in moderate to low lighting, and since every good picture is not out in broad daylight and there are some really beautiful colors at sunset, I was kind of peeved. Odd lighting seemed to confuse the camera, and the pictures wouldn't turn out looking like what you yourself were staring at.
Also, when taking pictures of various artwork (I was hoping to get away with taking pictures instead of having to buy a big ol' scanner), whether I stood the thing on a tripod or used macro settings... nothing would get the pictures of the art to come out crisp and clean. They were always just a bit blurry.
Overall:
For the price, you can't beat this camera. As long as you're not trying to get amazing, perfect pictures out of it - as long as you have the right expectations - you won't be disappointed. It's not for me, as I need something more precise for what I use it for, but everyone who just wants something to tote along with them on vacations ought to give it a try.
